CDW Helps Organizations Avoid Software Licensing Pitfalls
VERNON HILLS, Ill. - February 2, 2004 - CDW Corporation (Nasdaq: CDWC), a leading provider of name brand technology products and services, today announced that Computer Associates International and Network Associates Inc. have joined Adobe, Microsoft, Symantec and VERITAS in participating in CDW's Software License Tracker program.
The Software License Tracker is a customizable web-based tool, developed by CDW, which offers customers an integrated view of their software license inventory. It is part of the portfolio of value-added services and web-based tools customers receive when they do business with CDW. More than 33,000 customers have used the Software License Tracker since its inception last June.
License Management – Growing Business Function
Managing software licenses, including maintenance agreements, is becoming an increasingly important task for information technology managers and purchasing professionals. It can increase productivity and help an organization avoid additional software expenses.
For example, a company that fails to renew their license for an office productivity suite could pay triple the renewal amount for a new copy. Using an anti-virus software example, overlooking the renewal date on 50 of those licenses could cost an organization an extra $500.
Customers can also use the Software License Tracker to produce reports that can assist them to predict future software needs and to monitor the authorized software on employee computers.
How It Works
With an easy-to-use browser-based interface, the Software License Tracker marries volume-licensing information from participating software companies with data about licenses customers have purchased from CDW. Vital information – including purchase history, pricing and expiration dates – is automatically uploaded to the tool. In addition, users can input license information on any products regardless of manufacturer or place of purchase.
At SEA Consultants Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based architectural, civil and environmental engineering consulting firm, employees use 70 different software programs in their business. Bill Corley, information technology manager, says the Software License Tracker saves him time. "I need to spend my time furthering our firm's strategic priorities, not tracking software licenses. The Software License Tracker allows me and my CDW account manager to quickly review the status of our many license agreements, reducing the time I spend on license compliance and purchasing issues."
"CDW has long been a trusted source of information technology," said Tom Maloney, director of CDW Corporate Software Sales. "The combination of web-based tools and right advice from our licensing experts enhances the value we provide to our customers. We're pleased to have Computer Associates and Network Associates help make our Software License Tracker an even better resource."
CDW Value-Added Services
In addition to the Software License Tracker, CDW offers value-added services to help customers navigate their complex choices of solutions and brands. The volume licensing specialty team, for example, exclusively advises customers on acquiring the most appropriate license program for their needs. There are eight additional specialty teams:
- Bandwidth
