CDW Expands Board, Announces Executive Promotions
VERNON HILLS, Ill. - February 3, 2000 -- CDW Computer Centers, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDWC), a FORTUNE 1000 company and the country's direct solutions provider of brand name computer products, today announced an addition to its board of directors and the promotion of four key executives, effective immediately.
With net sales growth of 55 percent in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 1999, the company posted its the 26th consecutive quarter of sequential sales growth since it went public in 1993. "Moving forward in 2000 and beyond, we will build our management team and our board of directors, as we aim for continued coworker and customer satisfaction while we grow in market share, sales and profits," said Michael P. Krasny, CDW's chairman and chief executive officer.
At its January meeting, CDW's board of directors expanded the Board to eight members and elected Brian Williams to fill the new position. Williams is President of Foote, Cone & Belding Chicago and a member of FCB Worldwide Board of Directors. He is a graduate of Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and earned his bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College.
"Brian is highly regarded for his vision and leadership in advertising and marketing and brings a new dimension and wealth of experience to the Board," said Krasny. "We are proud to have Brian join our board as we continue to grow and take on a more prominent position as a national business leader."
CDW also announced the promotion of Dan Kass to executive vice president of sales, Paul Kozak to senior vice president of purchasing, Jim Lillis to vice president of sales and Art Friedson to vice president of coworker services. "We are very proud of the individual achievements of Dan, Paul, Jim and Art, each of whom has contributed to the collective success of CDW," said Krasny.
In his new role, Dan Kass will have executive responsibilities for sales, sales training and recruiting, and customer service, with an added focus on company-wide training and development. Kass joined CDW in 1987 as an account manager, and quickly climbed the ladder to become vice president of operations and a member of the company's board of directors. Prior to joining CDW, he held several positions in the computer retail industry. Kass earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University.
As senior vice president, Paul Kozak will oversee CDW's vendor relationships, monitor sales cycles and trends, and oversee billions of dollars in computer product purchases each year. Kozak joined the CDW team in 1987 as an account manager. Kozak was promoted to sales manager in 1990, director of purchasing in 1993, and vice president in 1996. Prior to joining CDW, he worked as a sales representative for Price Electronics. Kozak is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
With the growth in the company's sale force, Jim Lillis will assume general management responsibilities for sales and sales management. Lillis joined CDW in 1993 as an account manager. Prior to CDW, Lillis worked for Sun Process Converting as an inside sales account executive. He graduated with high honors from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he earned a bachelor of arts in public relations. With more than 93 percent of the company's business coming from commercial customers, CDW has successfully serviced the business-to-business market through its highly trained account managers who provide knowledgeable advice across multiple brand technology systems. The company is expected to grow its sales force by approximately 30 percent in 2000 and has announced plans to open a sales office in downtown Chicago in the second quarter of 2000.
Art Friedson will have general management responsibilities in the areas of coworker benefits, compensation, performance management, career development, coworker relations, recruitment, and organization planning. Friedson joined CDW in 1997 as director of human resources with more than 15 years of experience in human resource management at other FORTUNE 1000 companies. Recently, his department was renamed coworker services to reflect the company's heritage of referring to employees as coworkers in recognition of their combined efforts. He holds a master of science degree in industrial relations from Loyola University of Chicago, and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from The City College, City University of New York.
