CDW Computer Centers Recognized by Governor's Commission on Women
VERNON HILLS, Ill. - CDW Computer Centers, Inc., in Vernon Hills, Illinois was honored with an inaugural Governor's Family Investment Award from the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women in Illinois. The recognition came in the Child/Elder Care category of the awards at a ceremony in the Governor's office on May 10.
The Governor's Family Investment Awards are designed to reward companies throughout Illinois that take special strides in promoting familial responsibility in the work place.
CDW Computer Centers has maintained its small-company, family-oriented culture while growing into a Fortune 1000 company with more than 2,100 employees. CDW offers employees subsidized childcare at CDW@Play, a 33,000 square foot childcare and fitness center located at the company's Vernon Hills headquarters. CDW also offers an adoption assistance program, an educational assistance program and a host of special events to recognize families for their contributions to the company's success.
"It is truly wonderful to be recognized by the Commission," said Arthur Friedson, CDW Vice President of Coworker Services. "We have a strong commitment to family here -- it's important to help our coworkers balance work and family. We feel that families play an important role in the success of our company."
"CDW is a wonderful example of what a company can do to help bolster family responsibility in the workplace," said Governor Ryan. "We need more companies in Illinois to step up like CDW has done and make decisions based on what is right for Illinois' families."
Governor George H. Ryan recreated the Commission on the Status of Women with his first executive order. It is charged to work with both the private and public sectors to study the issues surrounding women's equity in Illinois, to examine ways to raise awareness of these issues, to develop collaborative public and private solutions and to make recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly.
