Technology Helps Drive Justin Wilson and No. 9 CDW/RuSPORT car to victory at Edmonton Grand Prix
VERNON HILLS, Ill. - July 25, 2006 - Justin Wilson drove his No. 9 CDW/RuSPORT car to victory Sunday afternoon at the Edmonton Grand Prix, aided by technology expertise and equipment from CDW (NASDAQ: CDWC), a leading provider of technology products and services for business, government and education.
"The entire strategy and performance developed and executed by my crew proved key to our victory," Wilson said. "One of the reasons we've done so well this year is the technology and systems for analysis of race information, which CDW helped implement for our team."
By capturing the checkered flag, Wilson is now in second place in the season standings for the 2006 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. In the process, Wilson set a new track record, finishing lap 82 in just 59.2 seconds. The race marks Wilson's first victory of the year, a season that has also included four second-place finishes.
"We have worked closely with RuSPORT to optimize the benefits of having the right technology on the race track," said Howard Weiss, a CDW systems engineer who is assisting the race team throughout the 2006 season. "We make sure they have what they need and that it's integrated and deployed in the best way for the team to succeed. It's the same thing we do for all our customers. We're thrilled to be helping Justin stay ahead of the competition - literally."
As part of a multi-year sponsorship, CDW is providing technology expertise as well as equipment by some of its leading business partners. The technology helps increase the team's ability to quickly and reliably monitor and improve on and off track performance, giving the CDW/RuSPORT Team an added edge on race day.
CDW partners that are joining in this unique sponsorship with RuSPORT are HP, providing notebooks, printers and video displays; Plantronics, supplying communications headsets; Edge Tech Corp., providing memory and portable solutions; and Targus, supplying notebook accessories.
"This was a great victory for Justin, for RuSPORT, and for everyone at CDW," said RuSPORT owner Carl Russo. "CDW is a part of our team, and with the expertise, technology and support they have provided us, they are a part of our success. The Champ Car World Series is extremely competitive. However, our chances of capturing even more checkered flags are greatly enhanced thanks to CDW and our vendor partners."
The 2006 Champ Car World Series continues with the San Jose Grand Prix on Sunday, July 30. The race will be broadcast live on NBC at 3:30 pm EDT.
