CDW Poll: 38 Percent of Organizations Using or Evaluating Windows Vista Will Deploy the 2007 Microsoft Office system within 12 Months

Technology provider says many businesses are running Office 2007 on Windows XP, and small businesses appear quicker to make the switch

VERNON HILLS, Ill. - September 5, 2007 - CDW Corporation (NASDAQ: CDWC), a leading provider of technology products and services to business, government and education, today released additional findings of its Second Windows Vista Tracking Poll. The survey of 753 IT decision makers, released last May, indicated that 29 percent of respondents were currently using or evaluating Windows Vista. Newly released findings of the survey show that 42 percent of those using or evaluating Windows Vista have deployed or plan to deploy the 2007 Microsoft Office system, and that 38 percent said they planned to do so within 12 months of when they took the survey last February.

While the survey shows that close to half of Windows Vista users polled plan to implement the 2007 Office system, CDW's experience with customers indicates that deployment of Office is not limited to Windows Vista adopters.

"Many customers deploying the 2007 Microsoft Office system are finding that the user benefits are substantial with both Windows Vista and Windows XP," said David Cottingham, director of product and partner management at CDW Corporation. "The 2007 Office release graphic interface is a considerable improvement from previous Office versions, and while it is quite different at first glance, it is more visually intuitive. After adjusting for a day or two, our customers find that they are more productive and don't want to go back."

Anecdotally, Cottingham adds that small businesses appear to be adopting the 2007 Office release more readily than larger organizations. "That may be in part because of simpler decision- making processes in small businesses," he adds, "but it is also consistent with the productivity benefits the software offers. It's been our experience that small, lean organizations are often the first to embrace tools that help them accomplish work more quickly and effectively."

The Second Windows Vista Tracking Poll, distributed May 8, 2007, revealed that 87 percent of organizations have implemented or plan to implement Windows Vista. Walker Information, in partnership with CDW Corporation, executed the research between February 10 and February 27, 2007. Seven hundred fifty-three IT decision makers completed the survey, resulting in a margin of error of ±3.5 percent at a 95 percent level of confidence. CDW plans to publish its third and final survey on Windows Vista adoption in the fourth quarter of 2007.
